Trash removal & Recycling

Casco Township provides refuse removal and recycling services to all property owners whose parcel has been "developed," meaning, property owners with some kind of structure on their land.  Residents may bring their recyclables and refuse to the Transfer Station each Saturday, 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.  Residents must show their Transfer station card (a.k.a. "dump card").  In each December tax mailing, "dump cards" are mailed for use in the upcoming year.  The transfer station (otherwise known as the dump) is located on west side of 69th Street, north of 103rd.  Dumping of trash is only permitted when the site is open on Saturdays, 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.  A limited number of tires and household appliances may also be disposed of at this site.  No construction debris is permitted.  If you have an unusual amount of tires, Casco is holding a special tire pickup day on Saturday July 23 for three hours--9 to 12 noon at the dump.  Limit of 25 household tires OR 10 semi tires OR 5 tractor tires per card-holding resident.

Recycling of paper, cardboard, aluminum, and glass is also available each week when the transfer station is open.  Your dump card must be shown when using the transfer station, but no punches are used if recycling only.

Residents who use up or lose their punch card may purchase a replacement from Casco Township for $30.  The replacement card does not expire.

Roads

Casco Township uses its voted-in road millage to pave, maintain, and gravel local roads throughout the Township.  Roadside mowing and dust layering is also paid for from this 1.464 millage.  Projects approved for the upcoming year include chipping & sealing of all roads in Scotsonia/North Meadows subdivision; chipping & sealing of Lake Ridge Road; 74th Street, 70th Street north of Baseline and 70th Street between 107th & 109th; and 104th between 66th and 65th.  On May 3, Casco voters overwhelming renewed the Road millage.  THANKS!

Last, year, old Adams Road was repaved.  Currently, the final section of 60th Street between 105th & 109th is being repaved (with the cost being split with Lee Township), as well as shoulders along 66th Street, and sections of 111th.

Also completed in the past year is a new roundabout at North Shore and Blue Star Highway.  This was funded in large part through a grant secured by the Allegan County Road Commission.  Drivers are reminded to yield to any traffic already in the circle before entering the roundabout.  This asset is designed to decrease the potential for high-injury accidents at this corner.

Elections

Picture
Elections are held at the Casco Township Hall.  Persons may register to vote at the Casco Township Hall, or at any Secretary of State office (when applying for a driver's license).  Persons may apply for an absent voter ballot; this needs to be done in writing as a signature is needed.

As a service to Casco voters, a list of permanent absent voters is maintained by Deputy Clerk Blanche Wilkinson (pictured above).  If you qualify for and request to be placed on our permanent absent voter ballot list, an application for a ballot will be mailed to you ahead of every election.  Please contact Blanche Wilkinson at 269-637-4441 on Tuesday afternoon or Thursday morning if you are interested in being on this list.

Residents, including 18 year olds with questions about voting, are invited to contact the Clerk, Julie Cowie, for information about the voter registration process (269-639-1970).  If you are unsure if you are registered to vote, please don't hesitate to call the Township and we'll confirm your registration status.  It is not necessary or required to claim party identity when registering to vote.

If you are interested in working on elections as a trained Election Inspector, please let Clerk Julie Cowie know of your interest.

Cemeteries

Casco Township has three cemeteries:  McDowell Cemetery, on 107th across from the Casco Township Hall; Stephenson Cemetery, on 66th Street; and Stuller Cemetery, on 64th Street.  The cemeteries are governed by rules approved by the Casco Township board.

Additionally, rates are set by the board for internment services and monument installations provided by Cemetery Sexton Joe Dubas (pictured here).

Lots may be purchased by residents and non-residents.  Lots cannot be transferred.    If you are interested in purchasing a lot with two burial spaces, please contact Sexton Joe Dubas at 269-214-1639.
